Professor Mustafa BERKTAŞ
Rector of İzmir Bakırçay University
He was born in 1960 in Izmir. After graduating from Istanbul University Istanbul Medical Faculty in 1983, he worked as a doctor in Tokat, Afyonkarahisar and Izmir. He specialized in Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology at Gaziantep University Faculty of Medicine. In 1993, he went to Van and served as the founding head of department of the Faculty of Medicine at Yüzüncü Yıl University and the founding chief of medicine of the University Health and Practice Hospital. In addition to his administrative duties in the Institute of Health Sciences, he also served successfully as the President of the Regional Medical Chamber. After his academic studies, he got the title of Associate Professor in 1996 and Professorship in 2003 at the same university. During this period, around 300 articles were published on national and international stage. In 2010, in just 7 months, he successfully managed to open Van Regional Training and Research Hospital where he was appointed to the position of founder chief of medicine. Right after its opening, this hospital, which was the only health institution standing in the Van Earthquake, successfully met the emergency health needs of the region during that period. He retired in 2012 and worked as a manager in a private health institution for three years. In 2015, He was assigned to Head of Turkey Health Care Quality and Accreditation Institute which is subordinated to Turkey Institutes of Health Presidency and, in this period, the National Hospital Accreditation Program was put into practice for the first time in Turkey. In 2017, at the University of Health Sciences where he was appointed as a professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology, he respectively executed works of Head of the Department and Vice Rector for Quality and Scientific Research besides of administrating of Scientific Research Projects Commission. Prof. Berktaş, who is advanced on English, is married, have three children and three grandchildren.
